A superb and exceedingly rare Bogdan Model 400 Salmon reel, in all-black and done as a single action 1:1 reel. RHW. 4″ in diameter with a 1 5/8″ spool width, the reel weighs approximately 12.6 ounces and would work perfectly for holding longer spey lines. Excellent used condition with a few tiny spots of rim rash and one moderate scratch at the edge of the rim from a knock. The rest of the reel is very clean throughout, including the rest of the frame, the sideplates, foot, and spool. Handsome all-black color for the frame and spool, with the foot, handle, oil port cover, poacher’s knob, and nameplate done in the standard silver. It is getting next to impossible to fine model 400’s that people are willing to part with, and harder still to find one in a unique configuration like this one! Comes in the original Bogdan suede bag with the original tag still on it, which includes Stan’s handwriting and the basic model information and owner’s name.

This reel comes from the collection of that original owner, the late Dr. Earl Fleegler, a passionate angler and well-known collector in the fly fishing community as well as a renowned hand surgeon. Dr. Fleegler was close friends with a number of angling luminaries including Tom Maxwell, Vince Marinaro, and Stan Bogdan (among others) and devoted considerable effort to collecting some of the finest tackle available from masters of the craft.
