For sale here is a very special rod made by Walt Carpenter in 1989. He called it the”Special Grade” and/or “Special Project”. 7 1/2 feet for a five weight line. The rod was custom built for a customer desiring one of Walt’s rods in the classic Payne cosmetic style. The rod remains in excellent plus condition and comes with its original bag and tube. On the medium side of medium fast action. Walt gave the rod a “tune up” as explained in the letter in the photos. Oxidized cap and ring over spanish cedar.Oxidized Super-Z type ferrules (size 13/64), oxidized guides and tip tops. Light caramel colored blanks with tung oil finish. Red agate stripping guide. Cigar grip. The rod weighs 3.6 oz. Waltis arecognized master of the Catskill school of rod building and has recently announced he is no longer taking new orders.
